This is my third year teaching at UPR Rio Piedras and I am really grateful because I am where I need to be. I started my teaching career as a TA at UPR Mayagüez, then I went on to Penn State where I also TA'ed and was Practicum Supervisor for the Teacher Prep Program. After deciding to abandon my studies at PSU I had a brief (one year) stay at Las Vegas, NV where I worked as an Education Specialist for the US Army (that was REAL brief). After having a "not so good" experience I decided it was time to come home so I packed my bags and my family and we moved back to Puerto Rico (this was 2006). I worked at UPR Aguadilla from 2006 to 2011 and it was definitely fun and GREAT years.
Now I'm here...UPR Rio Piedras is the place I call home and I am enjoying every minute of it!!!
Currently, I live in San Sebastian (just a couple of hours away--on a good "no traffic jam" day). I live mostly out of my car, or stay at my mom's house in Bayamón to save on gas. I have a 15 year old (in the picture you see here) who I am almost sure, is going on 22 and a 40 year old husband, who I am almost sure is going on 13...YOU FIGURE THAT ONE OUT! ;-)
As of now, I am doing my PhD work here in Rio Piedras and I’m in the Dissertation phase a.k.a. DISSERTATING (we PhD students have made it into a verb). It’s not easy but I guess I’ll figure it out!
Besides having all this going on, I am also Co-Director of the MWWP’s (Maya West Writing Project) Summer Institute so I work in Colegio Mayagüez on Mondays to support the project’s efforts. And to top it all off I coach English teachers at a Middle School in Cataño on Mondays, Wednesdays and some Fridays.
Well, on a personal note, I LOVE the beach, buying clothes and SUSHI!! I hate everything that most of you probably love (just because I challenge the popular stuff) and I love movies that most people wouldn’t care about.
